Things to Keep in Mind

Moving company moving boxes

One of the most challenging parts of the moving experience is hiring a reliable moving company. Regardless of whether you are moving into a new home, a rented apartment or a new office space, you’ll want to be able to find a quality and trustworthy moving company in your area.

When looking for movers it can be hard to tell if you’ve found a quality company or what you should be looking for to find the best moving company for you. Keep reading to learn some important tips which will help you hire a reliable moving company.

USDOT & AMSA Members

A U.S. Department of Transportation number or USDOT number is an easy way to make sure you are hiring a reliable moving company. This is issued by The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to moving companies, so you know that they are legitimate and licensed.

For more peace of mind, if movers are a member of the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA), you can be sure that they comply with federal moving and storage laws.

Free Estimates Are Provided

When you are trying to find a good moving company, a key indicator is their estimate process. Getting a free estimate over the phone or online is a good start, but a reputable moving company will gladly offer more accurate quotes via video or an in-home estimate.

A more accurate estimate takes an element of stress out of the picture. Knowing that your final bill for moving services will not be far off from the provided estimate, you’ll be able to budget appropriately and avoid any drastic financial shocks.

The Packing Process

Once you find a company you trust, be sure to inquire about their packing process for more details before moving day.

To ensure a seamless move, you should participate in the packing process. This way you can answer any questions your moving company may have, and you can guarantee that everything is packed the way you prefer. You can also provide the movers with an inventory list to help streamline the process. This list will also allow you to compare your list to the movers to make sure everything is there when the move is completed.

Packing Tips

No one likes unpacking a box when they get to their new place only to find broken or damaged items. When transporting delicate belongings, it is very important to make sure they are packaged properly to avoid costly replacements and potential danger. Here are a few ways you can minimize damages to your property in your next move Use quality boxes - free cardboard boxes are easy to come by, however these are not the boxes to be using when moving your china. Plastic totes or durable cardboard boxes are the best option to ensure safe transport. Make sure each item in the box is wrapped in bubble wrap or newspaper to avoid chipping on other objects. Don't overpack a box - While putting as much into a box as possible seems like a great way to save time and space, this will only hinder the moving process. Extra heavy boxes are prone to breaking or being dropped. Keep your boxes light when possible. Organize the insides of your boxes - The inside of your box does not have to be perfectly organized but creating some structure will help ensure safe transport. Use the heavy items such as books to create a base and then pack lighter items on top. Clothing - When it comes to packing up a house, the clothing inside closets and drawers can be the most time consuming. An easy way to combat this is by keeping your clothes on hangers and packing them inside trash can liners. Cutting a hole on the top allows for the top of the hangers to poke through for easy hanging when you get to the new place. Electronics - It is very easy for electronics to break during a move. wrap them securely with bubble wrap and make sure you have a box that can fit the entire device inside properly. It also helps to take pictures of the wires and chords before you unplug everything. This way you will have a photo to reference when reconnecting the device later on. Liquids - When moving liquid items such as shampoo, paint, or cooking oils, consider the potential damage that will occur when they leak. It is best not to put these items in cardboard boxes. Use a plastic box or grocery tote.

The Benefits of Utilizing a Storage Unit
January 20, 2020
Sometimes, it can be difficult to find space for all of your belongings in your home or business. Taking advantage of storage can be beneficial for a variety of reasons, including: Reduce Clutter & Increase Space Have a ton of items you don't use on a regular basis? Need to store the furniture that is unused in your office currently? Storage is a great solution! Whether you're holding onto items for later use, sentimental value, or are waiting for the right time to sell, storage can ensure those items are safe and sound until that time comes. Safety & Security Most storage facilities are equipped with advanced technology to ensure the property is secured and safe. This means that your items are under tight surveillance the entire time they are in storage. Valuable items, whether monetarily or emotionally valuable, are safer than if they were stored in a garage or basement. Holiday Storage It goes without saying that your holiday decorations only get used once a year. Therefore, storing them is the best way to get them out of the way and open up space for things you may need regular access to! Whether you have decorative holiday items for your home or business, storing them in a facility keeps them safe and out of the way until it's time to celebrate that particular holiday! Gap Between Move-Out & Move-In Dates In the event your move does not go according to the determined time frame, storing the items you don't need on a day-to-day basis can be helpful! You won't have to panic about where to store your items in the interim because they will be safe in a facility until your move-in date is set!
